EQ and generations at play

EQ and generations at play

At Nordsjælland Handball's network today I had the pleasure of facilitating a workshop on emotional intelligence (EQ) with a special focus on generations. The day was filled with curiosity, thoughtful laughter, and genuine "aha" moments.

Generational perspective with empathy and humour

Workshop participants were divided into groups and assigned a generation—Boomers, X, Y, or Z. Their task?
To step into another generation's shoes and act them out. That meant going beyond facts and demographics to explore:

  • 💬 What characterises their mindset and behaviour?

  • 🔥 What motivates them?

  • 😬 What prejudices do they hold about other generations?

It was both fun and thought‑provoking, sparking fresh understanding across ages and levels of experience.

From survival to meaning—generations and the brain

We linked the exercise to brain development and how our focus shifts from one generation to the next:

  • Are we chiefly concerned with survival, freedom, or meaning?

  • How do we move from the amygdala (our alarm system) to the neocortex (our reflective, creative centre)?

  • What does that mean for communication, collaboration, and leadership?

This neuro‑perspective opened lively discussions on how leaders can create space for reflection and psychological safety—across generations.

Thank you—and want to join next time?

A big thank‑you to Nordsjælland Handball, and especially to Kim Scheuer Nielsen and Thomas Elong, for inviting us into a room filled with reflection and good laughs.

We offer similar EQ workshops tailored to your needs and reality—whether the topic is

  • Generations and collaboration

  • Cultural differences

  • Psychological safety

  • Change and resistance

  • Health, wellbeing, bullying, and bias

  • Or whatever you're wrestling with right now

EQ is the key—and the underlying mechanisms are the same.

It's all about self‑insight, relationships, and the ability to create safe spaces.
